RealVNC
History
RealVNC Limited was established in 2002 by Andy Harter and the original VNC team members from AT&T. In 2018, the VNC Automotive division transitioned into a separate entity. The company has a rich history of developing remote desktop software solutions.
Platforms and Versions
RealVNC is compatible with Windows, macOS, and Unix-like operating systems for desktop-to-desktop connections. Additionally, VNC clients are available on the Java platform, Apple iOS devices, and Google Android devices. VNC Viewer Plus, a client tailored for Intel AMT chipsets, was introduced in 2010. The software offers three subscription options: Home (free), Professional, and Enterprise, with the release of VNC Connect in 2016, featuring cloud connectivity and a subscription-based model.
Functionality and Connectivity
RealVNC software allows for full-screen mode operation, with the F8 key enabling access to the options menu. The VNC server enables remote control of computers from other devices. The software utilizes the RFB protocol with the default TCP/UDP port 5900. To enhance security, users can tunnel VNC through SSH for encryption and avoid opening additional ports. Despite its pixel-based nature, RealVNC provides a reliable solution for remote desktop access.
